Hi everyone,
Hope this finds everyone well. You are probably all wondering "where has
Josie been?" Last year, all you had to do was pick up the local newspaper
and there I was but this year I've been keeping a much lower profile. Yes, I
am still doing the ride and Yes, Kingaroy Cruisers are also still doing the
ride, although I think we should seriously considering changing our name to
Kingaroy Crocks.
You see, the reason for the low profile this year has not been of my own
choosing. Since Christmas I have been suffering from recurrent bouts of
illness, not directy associated with MS but probably being assisted by the
MS and they have been quite debilitating. So.... last Wednesday, I proudly
rode about 30km and Thursday I ran 3km and this morning I could barely walk
to our top dam and back (about 600-700metres). However, things are looking
up again and hopefully all will now go well until the ride. Think I said
that about two months ago. Just have to concentrate on getting healthy and
staying healthy for the next four weeks. But, WOW, four weeks to go!!!
As for the Kingaroy Crocks thing, well let me tell you about this years
lineup. We have my brother, Gerard - think hes ok(He has to be. He's my
"enforcer". He gets to ride up front and clear a path for the rest of us).
My brother David, who many of you will know has broken probably at least
half of his bones in his lifetime - the last one being ribs and punctured
lung last year. Then we have my cousin, Patrick - open heart surgery last
December, Keith who dealt with melanoma last year and is in remission, Barry
who is 76 years old - don't tell him though, hes still the best rider
amongst us. The rest of the crew are ok I think, Cathy and Ken Goodhew from
Struddys, my nephew Connor, my cousin Danny and his mate, Scott and a few
others who aren't registered yet - just to balance out us lot, oh, and our
latest member, Christopher who is deaf. So I think there are quite a lot of
jokes that could be made about us, but, all that aside, this wonderful bunch
of people will be riding with me this year to raise some money and awareness
of the effect that MS has on peoples lives. About half of them refuse to
wear lycra, but you can't have everything - seeing Davids and Patricks legs
will be entertainment enough for all of us!
The purpose of this email is to say THANKYOU. To those of you who have
sponsored us already or who plan to do so. To those of you who have sent
messages of support, they are greatly appreciated. And to those of you who
are still considering riding, please join up, there are four distances -
10km, 25km, 50 and 100 and seriously, with the line-up we have, even if you
think you're not the best rider in the world - you can't fail!! We have
riders doing the 25, 50 and 100kms courses this year.
If you still want to sponsor go to www.brissietothebay.com.au and search Jo
Potter or Kingaroy Cruisers or if you are in Kingaroy call in to Struddys
Sports and they will take cash donations and issue a receipt. All donations
over $2.00 are tax deductible.MS Qld have also put a story about me on my
fundraising page too, if anyone is interested in reading it.
Thanks for your time and interest
