It's the New Year and some members are returning to running sessions after a well earned break while others have continued running over the school holidays. We all have goals for 2010 and to support these aspirations we could all benefit from regular reminders about how to run, in particular, our running technique or form.
Key points to remember regularly to succeed with your running include -
*make your running program a high priority
*build a foundation with correct running technique/form
*as this foundation/base becomes stronger, your body then begins to handle more distance
*a by-product of practicing good technique over increased distance is SPEED - this point is particularly important - many members begin running and very quickly in their running journey begin to pressure themselves to run faster - rather than focusing on technique and allowing their bodies to adjust and develop progressively.
It is believed that the most common cause of injury to a runner is POOR running technique/form. Injury is highly likely to isolate a runner as it stops a runner from running and being apart of club sessions.
So this year make your resolution to include concentrating on your running form/technique, let the other factors such as distance and speed to develop progressively.
On a regular basis, Colleen will at club sessions run through key points to assist and remind members about technique focuses.
Here's to an injury free running year!
