Toowoomba Road Runners

Sunday, Oct 14th, saw Toowoomba turn on perfect weather for the Toowoomba Road Runner's Marathon.  GGG members, Colleen, Jo and Angela participated in the 3/4 Marathon, Half Marathon and 10k events, respectively.

Colleen began running at 5:30am in very pleasant conditions, with new changes to the course this year.  The course was shortened through the suburb streets and extended out behind the uni which opened up to  very beautiful scenery.  Colleen throughly enjoyed the first loop absorbing the sights and enjoying the run on her own.  The second loop the hills were slightly more noticeable and by the third loop, helped by the speedy front Half Marathoners zooming by, the hills  turned to mountains! Run/walking the last 4k, Colleen completed in the 31.65k course in 3:23, placing second in her age group.

Jo began the Half at 7am enjoying the first loop but endured a stitch for a lot of the second loop.  Jo finished in 2:12 for the 21.1k course.

Our young up and coming Miss Angela, did not disappoint the club with a first place in her age group, finishing the 10k in 1:07.  Angela had a lovely morning catching up with  ultra running buddies, whom she had not seen for years. Our little pocket rocket is full of surprises, revealing she use to do training runs of 50k about the uni, when she lived there years ago!

Jo's hubby, Brad completed his first 10k in 1:15.  Colleen's hubby, Len ran his 18th Marathon in 3:35, her sons, Reece  the Half in 1:47 and Jarred the 10k in 45mins.

The day was topped off with the random draw where Brad won a pair of Thorlo socks and Colleen a $200 pair of muzuno's!
