Brisbane Running Festival

Coach Colleen, her hubby and eldest son participated over the weekend at the Brisbance Running Festival.  This year was the first time that the competitors in the Marathon, Half and Ten K ran a new course that took them through the city streets and then up and over the Story Bridge before continuing through Kangaroo Point, South Bank, West End and finally finishing at the River Stage in the Botanical Gardens.

The course is definitely not flat but all the down hills gave the opportunity to pick up the pace and take advantage of the terrain.  Even with a challenging and varied course the Gunn family were happy with thier times.  Len did the Marathon 3:25, Colleen the Half 2:03 and Reece 10k 46mins.

The recovery area was brilliant, basking on the grassy slopes of the river stage with plenty of free refreshments - fruit, poweraide and muffins.  Coffee's and other healthy snacks were also available for purchase.  The Marathoners were treated to their own recovery area with free massages and  a wide variety of free food and drinks.  Len just wished he was hungry when he finished!  However he did come out with a doggy bag and enjoyed his treats on the drive home!

It was a chilly morning which took us a little by surprise however it made for great conditions to run in!  Running over the Story Bridge gave fantastic views of the city and then running along the river edge for most of the course, one could not be dissappointed with the scenery! This event is definitely worth GGG's considering for  next year
