The girls that ran the 10Km event.

Yesterday fifteen of our club members participated in events at the inaugural Sunshine Coast Marathon & Community Run Festival.

Five GGG's ran the half marathon which started at 6:30am with finishing times of:- Jo with a PB of 2:00hrs, Carolyn 2:10, Betty and her running buddy Jane in 2:15. Congratulations to Michelle finishing with a PB of 2:58.

Nine GGG's started in the 10km event at 9:30 which was a very hot time of day; with finishing times of Kerry 1:00hr, the mother and daughter team of Tahnee & Donna in 1:01, Mandy with a PB of 1:05, Vicki who didn’t drown in sweat in 1:10, Katy, Sam & Veronnica ran the event together in 1:11. Angela heeded the advice of Coach Colleen and made sure she won her 70-74 age group in 1:10.

Rachael completed the 5km in the sweltering heat in a time of 40mins. Jo’s husband Brad also ran a PB in the 5km event.

Mandy backed up her 10km event by running the 2km race with her son. And Sammie’s son Hughie also ran the 2km event.

Congratulations to all those who participated in events on the day. Well done!

The general consensus about the event was that it was well organised with lots of volunteers however the course was narrow and bottlenecked in the initial stages of the 10km event and km markers were difficult to locate through out the event. The girls enjoyed the many out and back turn arounds which gave them the opportunity to see one another each time they passed.

The 10km girls were inspired by lining up for the race behind Matt Golinski.
It was great to catch up and relax after the event with fellow club members.
