The Gold Coast put on brilliant weather as usual which was a nice change from the cold wet weather we had been having in Kingaroy. However our Marathon runners, Jo and Donna would have liked it to have been a little cooler for the end of their run.
Both Jo and Donna started the Marathon (42.2km) feeling good but things changed by the 20km mark with both girls not feeling well enduring stomach ache and the urge to throw up. Not sure if one of the water stations was dodgy or if the heat was just too much they soldiered on to finish. Jo came home in 5:21 and Donna in 5:36. You girls are amazing!
The half marathon (21.1km) saw Annette do a blistering 1:54 followed closely by Sally who was on fire coming in 1:55, Colleen came in on 2:06 after consoling her son Jarred after he pulled out of the race with calf problems, Carolyn wasn’t far behind on 2:09, Alana ran a 2:19 with her partner Chris and Michelle blitzed it in 3:05. Awesome effort by all!
Tina lined up in her first 10km with Vicki and got into her rhythm at the 1km mark when the crowd started to disperse and scorched the distance in 1:02 with Vicki doing a PB at 1:06. Tina you are a superstar!
This year the 5km run was extended to a 5.7km course which Mandy breezed home in 34:51 and Rachael pushed home in 47:31. Well done girls!
Colleen’s hubby cruised home in the Marathon in 3:28, and her son Reece finished the half marathon in 1:44. Jarred is having physio for the micro tears in his calf which could take 12 weeks to heal. Jo’s hubby Brad did his first 5.7km in 42:59.
